In our history on Earth, the people have tended to addorn a symbol with the rest of the populous in thier area. In kingdoms crests were typical, but there is many other types. For instance a knight would usualy have thier house symbol on thier shield. It can either be a blood line, or a area, or even the mark of thier master.
In these times if you bore the symbol of that house, you bore the weight of representing all within it. It was no small thing to change ones loyalties or oaths, and rightfully so since it usualy meant your painfull death if you did.
I bring this up because in jesus's life he mostly chose only one symbol, his grail (atleast the main one noted). Was he possibly being pressured to bear a mark? It seems to be the main one that was missed with jesus too, since its deep in the shadow of the cross symbol. Even now the grail is not associated as much with jesus, as it is giving one power or eternal life.
It also seems the fish was prominent in thier choice of symbols. A more secretive one though, and mostly to identify ones faith without words. This was more of something from jesus's wake as well though.

I would love to know where you found that Jesus chose the Grail as his symbol.
The Grail is a symbol of Grace or The Light. It is my understanding that the power of Grace gives fortitude to withstand anything, like persecution or torture, and long physical life.
The Holy Spear or snake is the symbol of Passion or Kundalini. It is this power, the power of Passion that gives physical power, like kingship, and eternal life.

The Grail or White Energy gives the determination of purpose, to the point of not backing down when challenged by powerful people. It also sustains one during times of persecution.
This is how Christians, who had been thrown to the lions in the Roman colosseum, could face the horror of such a death without a murmur. When you are filled with The White Energy, or Grace, you do not feel pain. This system of persecution backfired. The audience was so impressed by the strength of conviction and the calmness during death that many converted.
So, the White Energy can be associated with the cross. Without it in abundance, you cannot face the cross. You do a Peter and deny Christ 3 times on Good Friday and later try to run away from your own crucifixion.

In the book "The Sufis", Idries Shah discusses the version of the Grail myth; he tels us that the world "grail" is a corruption of the Arabic word "qarael" , meaning 'recital". From the information I have been able to pick up about this, it would seem that "recital' can also mean something like "mystery play", (such as that re-enacted every time someone receives their Masonic Third Degree, f'r instance. )
He also mentions that the Arabic letter for "Q" (the letter itself inferring "mystery") looks very like a "G" when written out in Arabic script. When I read this, it brought me up short, because previous to reading this book, several times when I had been meditating on the symbol of the Masonic Square and Compass, the "G" in the centre had spontaneously reformed itself into a "Q". To read that there was in fact serious precedent for this vision was very helpful in dispersing the erroneous notion that I was "making it all up".
The idea of a the "grail" as a "cup" undoubtedly comes from the Sufic theme of the "cupbearer", which is linked with the idea of a sacred drama (The Last Supper); the cup also symbolizes "fate" or "destiny", but one that is assumed voluntarily, since Jesus also used the words "Let this cup pass from me"As we know, in the end he accepted the 'cup", but it cannot be denied from the anailable evidence that he in fact had the option to pass it up!

Thanks to both of you! Very interesting how much is behind the cup symbol. My biggest association to it in my life is that riddle I came up with, about how the only physical tool "I can think of" that everyone would use worldwide is a cup. From a native to a billionaire.
SC Im wondering if you would be willing to post a reference or link to the Sufi. Im interested in how they came about and thier begginings.

The cup is a universal symbol because it is how the mind's eye sees the transformation through Grace. I have new pictures on my website to show this. You can check it out: www.JesusWedding.com
