I've always just loved that stuff, the musical works of Joni Mitchel! Developing a taste for some more recent songs, I went to her earliest stuff and developed a real appreciation for that... Canada is, I think, a country which is actually a little more virtuous than the U.S.; I think it's been less corrupted; I would say Canadian birth is the result of slightly better Karma than American, generally- you know, from former existences. Possibly America is bigger on entertainment. I think she wanted to be nationally, or somatically closer to a large percentage of those who became her fans. During the epoch characterized by the hippies, or flower children, as an inspired person, she felt she should simulate with them; found however that intractable audiences dulled her appetite for performing along with other factors; being an artist; painting very beautifully. I remember when I was a very young man I followed a retiring tendency, too; I think the Retiring Moon was or is actually my lunar sign type. It seemed to me, in my vicinity, there was not really much going on out and around except a lot of gasoline usage. A fundamental activating circumstance for the Flower Children was the fact that Fortune was not easy, in this country- harder than it ought to be, really. Her attitude was perhaps, "Because ye are poor, ye are compelled to be humble; perhaps are then open to Truthfulness!" She is a very Satya, or Truthfulness oriented musician- very creative. In a way she sort of abdicated a throne in Hippiedom, where many were becoming misguided, even dangerous, intractable- during one period. I don't particularly like most of the jazz tradition, but like an magic alchemist she created some quintessence from jazzy modes.
